Little House on the Prairie study english/maths/geography
read some of the retentive parts of “Inside Lauras Little House” by Carolyn Strom Collins and Christina Wyss Eriksson
We read about how Laura changed some aspects of the truth to make her story more interesting. We discovered that through research people have been able to establish where the cabin would have been. We discussed how often people put important places and dates in their bibles. We looked at my own bible and saw how I have underlined and made notes and put my addresses in it. My Home Schooler thought was defining the book. We found out how they traveled each day and compared it to how far that would be from here. Very slow travel. We read about why pioneers moved west. We compared the way the prairie became available very much the same way New Zealand would have become available when parts of it were sold off so the Englsih people could live here. We paced out the length of their house and compared it to our lounge. My home schooler was surprised that they would be able to fit 2 double beds, a table and chair and other objects into our lounge. I reassured him they could have done so easily, pointing out they didnt have all the junk we have. We read and discussed their toilets and what an outhouse and a chamber pot is. Looking at photos on the internet at these too.
